My creations range from practical mosaics to decorate our home, to wearable art and paper to make books, 2D and 3D art work. Many pieces are given away for gifts or sold at the Alcove Art Shop. Some are commissions or just the result of exploring a new medium.
Books
Making books is a wonderful way of bringing together my love of collage, paper and fabric. Using my handmade paper brings an elements of colour and texture to the creations.
The books gallery has various examples.
Making books by hand enables great flexibility of size shape and colour.

Books can be tailored to suit their use, Journals for writing and art work, recipe or photograph collections, travel journals and many more uses take on a life of their own when styled for a person or a special occassion.
My books are for sale at The Alcove Art Shop and Books can be made to order by arranging a meeting with me. Commissions result from a request for a book, which is then planned collaboratively to ensure that we use the most suitable paper, colour and size. Albums can be made for Birthdays, Anniversaries, Travel Journals, a Thesis can be bound, artwork can be stored in a bound format. There are many reasons to order a book or album.
Paper
Paper making is wonderful. This paper was made in Thailand by me in a little village in the mountains. Some of my paper is made from recycled paper and some is made from plant fibres. The joy of dipping the mould and deckle into the vat and pulling a sheet is like no other thing I do. As I make the paper I plan how it will be used. Lately I have been making books with handmade paper pages.
Cards
Handmade cards are a wonderful way to send a personal message to a friend or family member. Coloured papers, prints or stamps and photographs add colourful detail and individuality making each card a work of art. Every special occassion deserves a card. I have been making cards for at least 20 years and still enjoy it very much. My cards are for sale at the Alcove Art Shop.
Scarves
Silk scarves make a wonderful addition to anyone's outfit. The lustre of a natural fibre like silk gives the scarves a subtle sheen.
These scarves have been made from Vietnamese silk bought by Sarah when she travelled to Vietnam and other silks I collected from various places.
These beautiful scarves can not only be worn for decoration and warmth but used in your home to wrap special items or to hang on the wall as a work of art.
Mosaics
Inspired by Kaff Fasset, this mosaic armchair took a year to complete.
The time was well spent and the result was colourful and comfortable. Modelled over the frame of an old armchair the wire frame supported the concrete base for the mosaic pieces. A few flowers were made at a time then added to the chair.
Two lovely friends came and helped with the grouting.
The chair is very heavy and may never move again.
Boxes
Boxes are an attractive and colourful way to personalise your storage. Boxes protect your valuable artifacts which you want to store and can be purpose built to a suitable size. This box has been covered with my solar printed paper.
Felt
Years ago I spun and knitted with wool straight from the sheep's back. Now I am working with Merino wool again as I wet, soap and rub it to make colourful felted items. For this scarf the wool is felted on to silk fabric.
