History of felt
It is thought felt was made in the Bronze Age, well before wool fibres were spun and woven. Felt hangings, socks and stockings, cushions rugs and carpets, saddle covers and blankets dating back to 600 – 200 B.C. have been found in Siberian tombs. As with many textiles, felt making is often a group activity in nomadic communities.
